MIDFIELDER Stophilla Sunzu has been ruled out of Chipolopolo's remaining two Orange CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup Group A matches due to injury.
Team doctor Joseph Kabungo said in an interview from Nairobi that Sunzu sustained the injury on Saturday in Chipolopolo's 2-0 win over hosts Kenya in the two sides’ opening Group A match.
"Stophilla is out and has a problem with his knee," Dr Kabungo said.
"He will miss a minimum two games, that means he will only be available for the quarterfinals.”
Dr Kabungo said Sunzu strained his ligaments in the left knee in extra time of the 90 minutes in the match against Kenya.
“He is in a knee brace and on crutches,” he said.
And assistant coach George Lwandamina said Sunzu's injury was a blow to the team but that the technical bench will know what impact his absence will make after watching Ethiopia and Djibouti who were in action by press time yesterday.
Ethiopia and Djibouti opened their Group A account yesterday in Nairobi.
Meanwhile, Lwandamina said Chipolopolo's win over Kenya was a good start to their CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup campaign.
"Like the old preverbal saying goes; the first step is always important. It is a result that puts us in the right direction," Lwandamina said.
Chipolopolo take on Ethiopia in their second Group A match on Wednesday.
