NEWLY elected National Energy Sector and Allied Workers Union (NESAWU) president Robinson Nyirenda yesterday urged the public to assist in curbing vandalism.
In an interview yesterday, Nyirenda said there was need for the public to play a role in curbing vandalism.
"We are urging the public to be on the ground and protect the installations we have," he said.
He also said his main task would be to visit all provinces in order to capture the workers' grievances.
"There is nothing else I am promising our workers apart from tackling their social welfare," he said.
Nyirenda called for a merger with the splinter union - Power Generation and allied Workers union of Zambia (POGAWUZ).
"As long as we go two there will be a problem," he said.
And newly elected NESAWU treasurer general Precious Njekwa urged all provincial coordinators to recruit new members.
And the new secretary general Manson Mutambo said the new executive was impressed with the new Zesco management under Cyprian Chitundu, which he said was committed to the workers.
"We are grateful that they have given us the new managing director who is down to earth and able to meet people anytime," he said.
And outgoing NESAWU secretary general Yotam Mtayachalo urged those who lost in the elections to support the new executive.
"Zesco workers should give these people the maximum support. I am confident that the new team is a formidable team and is capable of taking the union to greater heights," he said.
He urged them to put the interest of workers first.
"They must be ready to sacrifice for the benefit of the workers," said Mtayachalo.
