POWER Dynamos coach Fordson Kabole has the potential to attain legendary status at Arthur Davies should he guide the Kitwe side to victory in this year’s Barclays Cup final against Green Buffaloes at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka today.
It is rare for a coach to replicate his magic in a second tenure with a team but things have looked up for Power since Kabole's reappoint in August following the sacking of Egyptian Mohamed Fathy.
Kabole has steered Power to their second cup final in 12 months after guiding the Kitwe giants to the final of the same competition last year where they lost 1-0 to two-time Barclays Cup champions Zesco United.
Moreover, under Kabole Power are looking set to finish third in the league and have also not lost in nine league matches since August 15 when they beat Zesco 4-1 in Kitwe, recording six wins and three draws.
Victory in the Barclays Cup will also end a seven-year drought for Power in terms of major cup honours.
Power's best run came in under the late Ben Bamfunchile who from 2001 to 2003 won four trophies though the league title remained elusive.
However, Kabole's quest for Barclays Cup glory is hampered with the absence of two key players.
Midfielders Luka Lungu and Kennedy Mudenda are with Chipolopolo on national duty at the Orange CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Kenya.
The onus will be on the creativity of midfielders Simon Bwalya and Joseph Sitali to try and inspire Power this afternoon.
Meanwhile, Buffaloes who have not won a major cup honour since lifting the Mosi Cup in 2005 have also been hit by absentees due to CECAFA duty.
Goalkeeper Davey Kaumbwa, defender Dennis Banda and midfielder Sebastian Mwansa are all in Kenya with Chipolopolo.
Coach Alfred Lupiya will turn to striker Edward Museba including the midfield duo of Buchizya Mfune and Nathan Sinkala to try and break Power's hearts for a second successive year.
Winner of this year’s Barclays Cup final will take home K125 million while the runner-up will collect a K50 million cheque.
Man-of-the-Match will win K2.5 million and coach of the tournament will get K5 million.
