POLICE on the Copperbelt have arrested a 35-year-old pastor of Church of Christ in Chingola for smuggling 17 Congolese children aged between 2 and 8 into Zambia.

During a press briefing, deputy provincial commissioner Milner Muyambago said Moses Ndanji of 8D Twachuka Chabanyama township in Chingola was intercepted on his way from Congo at Konkola check-point.

"He was claiming to be a pastor and said he was bringing the children in Zambia for a party. We got hold of their parents in Kasumbalesa from the Congolese side who accepted that they had given their children to him," he said.

Muyambango said police had arrested Ndanji for smuggling despite claiming to be a pastor.

Muyambango said Zambia Police was working in collaboration with the Immigration Department to curb human trafficking, adding that Ndanji was detained in Chililabombwe.
