FOOTBALL administrator Kizzy Moonga has proposed that the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) summons a special council meeting to scrutinise the performance of the current executive committee.
And Moonga, who is Division Two side Afritex FC chairman, has condemned FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya for issuing instructions to stop players from offering interviews to the media.
In a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday, Moonga advised FAZ councillors to wake up and hold their leaders accountable.
"I do not have the luxury of talking in parables and start looking at all sorts of vocabulary when the right vocabulary here is impeachment. The option of running to FIFA after a vote of no confidence by the FAZ Council is untenable and hollow and we cannot afford to be dashing to the drawing boards after every tournament," he stated.
Moonga appealed to FAZ to allow the media operate freely.
"The know-it-all attitude has apparently failed and FAZ should realise that supporters and the media are a very crucial and integral part of the game and they will be interested to learn that FIFA Statutes, Clause 52 has a provision for a media committee to, inter-alia, deal with working conditions for the media at FIFA events and maintain relations," he added.
Moonga questioned the criteria behind national team players’ selection.
He also wondered why some FAZ executive committee members and employees still had direct interest with clubs.
"Let the FAZ executive explain why people at Football House are still running club football.
"The blatant arrogance by these officials running football at both national and club level have literally killed competition as match officials tend to be on the side of clubs owned by FAZ executive committee members. I have spoken about this to Referees Association of Zambia president Mr Welly Chikuka," Moonga complained, adding; "There is no transperency in the selection of players and it is not surprising that the bulk of our current Under-17 and 20 players are coming from a team owned by one FAZ executive member."
He also expressed disappointment with the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) for treating FAZ with 'kid gloves.'
Moonga stated it was wrong for NSCZ spokesperson to suggest FAZ had not recorded any failure.
In reference to Mwitwa's press briefing on Tuesday in which he was quoted as saying FAZ had not failed, Moonga wondered why FAZ was being protected.
"In case Mwitwa has forgotten, last year, when the current FAZ executive took over the running of football in this country, Zambia was ranked 67 in the world whereas Malawi, a country that once served as whipping boys, ranked 182 but today Malawi is ranked 90 (92 rungs up) whilst Zambia is ranked 96 (29 rungs down). If this is not failure, then what does Mwitwa call failure?" he asked.
On Tuesday, Mwitwa advised the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to exercise restraint in dealing with complaints from the soccer fans.
Mwitwa said NSCZ would address concerns raised by fans after the crucial Rwanda versus Zambia game in Kigali.
“We had a meeting with FAZ this morning Tuesday following protests by the fans. We have asked FAZ to exercise restraint in reacting to complaints by the fans and that efforts now should towards the crucial game on Saturday,” said Mwitwa.
